Web Development Process

Building a website is a simple five step process.

Step 1: Getting the Essentials

We meet with you (either virtually through e-mail/phone or, if convenient, face-to-face) and get a feel for you and your business, asking questions, learning your desired marketing approach, and generally building a picture of your business from the ground up. If you have any websites that you like (look and feel, navigation, and/or functionality), we take a look at those. You also provide us with relevant graphic art, including photos, logos, font styles, etc--anything that can aid us in creating a site of which you will be proud.

At this time we also determine and secure a domain name (or multiple) if necessary as well as hosting, and set up your initial e-mail accounts.

Step 2: Conceptual Design

Starting with a blank, white page, we start putting those ideas together into a conceptual design. When we have completed an initial design, we upload it to our development site and have you check it out. At this point it is just a static image and none of the links work. You send back any ideas, changes, or criticisms and we adjust the design accordingly. Depending on your level of detail and how well we have grasped your ideas, this step can take anywhere from a day to several weeks.

Step 3: Structural Construction

Not unlike framing a house, a website needs structural elements that contain the different parts of the site. For example, we might have a titlebar, menu, submenu, content, footer, and splash image elements. We break the site down into these parts and recreate the concept into a living, breathing site. Usually this step can be completed in under a week.

When that is complete, we send it back over to you so you can try it out again with more control over the different parts of the site.

Step 4: Secondary Pages

Now the fun begins. We create each page, writing copy ourselves or pasting it in depending on the level of detail you have provided us. We place images, add functionality through scripting, and flesh out the rest of the site.

This is where it can take anywhere from a couple days to several weeks, depending on how many secondary pages there are and the amount of custom scripting that is required.

Once this is complete, we send the site over again for your inspection and modifications.

Step 5: GO LIVE!

If all looks well, we remove any temporary construction pages and go live with the website! We immediately go through the entire site again with a fine-tooth comb looking for any errors or bugs that slipped through the quality control process.
